Women & Youth Empowerment — Equare Secondary School, Ekpoma (Nov 2023)

A 3-day youth & women empowerment programme delivered at Equare Secondary School, Ekpoma (Esan West LGA) in November 2023, training 420 participants in modern, cost-effective farming techniques. Each participant received a ₦50,000 seed grant after training.

This programme combined practical hands-on training in improved crop production and small-scale agribusiness with post-training start-up support (cash grant and input packages). Training covered affordable soil improvement, seed selection, climate-smart practices, post-harvest handling and basic business planning tailored to smallholder youth and women.

 

Objectives

  • Build competence in low-cost, high-yield farming techniques for youth & women.
  • Increase household incomes via agricultural enterprise and collective marketing.
  • Facilitate access to start-up capital and inputs for immediate planting cycles.

Target beneficiaries / selection

  • Total: 420 participants (women & youth).
  • Selection criteria: residents of Esan West LGA, age 18–45 for youth stream, women smallholder farmers prioritized; basic literacy preferred.
  • Equity: target at least 60% women and 40% youth (or vice-versa per your policy).

Women & Youth Empowerment — Irrua, Esan Central LGA (Soap Making + Root Tuber Farming)

A hybrid programme in Irrua focusing on soap production (value-added micro-enterprise), root tuber (cassava/yam) farming techniques, and distribution of farm implements. Participants also received ₦35,000 each.

This programme blended agro-production training (root tuber husbandry) with a cottage industry skill (soap making) to diversify income streams. It included practical demonstrations for tuber propagation and soap formulation, packaging and basic marketing.

 

Objectives

  • Diversify livelihoods by pairing crop production with value-adding activities.
  • Improve productivity for root tuber production through best agronomic practices.
  • Create micro-enterprises producing soap for local markets.

Target beneficiaries

  • Community members of Irrua and Esan Central LGA (mixed youth & women).
  • Beneficiaries: those with small landholdings and micro-enterprise interest.Objectives

Infrastructure Project — Illeh Primary School: 4-Classroom Block (Esan West LGA)

Construction and furnishing of a new 4-classroom block at Illeh Primary School in Esan West LGA to improve learning environments and increase classroom capacity.

A community-focused infrastructure investment delivering a 4-unit classroom block, including basic furniture (desks/benches). Works included site preparation, community engagement, and a handover ceremony.

Outputs & KPIs

  • 4 functional classrooms; increased capacity of students

Women Empowerment — Baking & Confectionery Training (Igueben / Igueben LGA)

A practical baking & confectionery training for 400 women (multiple day workshop series), including hands-on baking sessions, recipe scaling, hygiene, packaging, and a ₦50,000 post-training cash support per participant.

A demand-driven technical and business training that equips women with production skills (bread, cake, pastry), basic food safety and hygiene, cost-pricing and small business management to transition to micro-enterprise. Includes equipment demonstration and starter cash.

Objectives

  • Provide marketable baking skills and create pathways to micro-enterprise.
  • Improve food safety practices and product shelf life.
  • Support business start-up with a liquidity injection and market linkages.

Target beneficiaries

  • 400 women (Igueben LGA + surrounding communities).
  • Priority: unemployed/underemployed women, market traders, micro-entrepreneurs.

Equipment & inputs

  • Shared starter kit per cohort.
  • Starter ingredient pack & hygiene kits for participants.
  • Cash grant: ₦50,000 disbursed upon completion (per participant, as per screenshot).

Outputs & KPIs

  • 400 trained; 400 cash grants.
  • At least 35% start a small baking business or join a cooperative within 3 months.
  • Number of women accessing market stalls or adopting collective branding.
